Biography

Born in 1963, Mike Jackson grew up in the historic City of York. He studied Graphic Design and Photography at York College until 1982.

Mike continued to reside and work in York until 2002 when he, with his wife and two daughters moved to Scarborough on the Yorkshire coast.

In the July of 2006, Mike was asked to photograph the 4-day free music festival ‘Beached’ in Scarborough, this rekindled his passion for photography and combined it with his love of music. His images have a quality that is both intimate and empathic to the performance. Mike has developed a style that captures his subject using only available light, prefering an unintrusive approach that preserves the integrity of the performer without distraction.

Four years later, Mike frequently provides local media with images, promoting forthcoming artists and their subsequent reviews. He has covered many local music festivals and supports both Scarborough’s Jazz and Blues clubs.

In February 2009, Mike had his first major solo exhibition at the Stephen Joseph Theatre, where he exhibited images taken during four of the regions music festivals, and will be exhibiting again in September during the 2009 Scarborough Jazz Festival.

Mike is equally at home photographing theatrical, film and T.V. performances, having recently photographed the National Theatre ‘New Connections’ Youth Theatre Festival at the SJT in Scarborough.
